Everything about staying with a host family

With host families selected and supervised by T4L. Each student has their own bed (beds are never shared) and at least two students stay together in each family.

We carefully visit every home before accepting it and check that it meets our standards of comfort, food, cleanliness and atmosphere. Before each group, we call the families to confirm their availability, and we supervise every stay.

Yes. Every student has their own bed; beds are never shared. The room may be single or shared with another student.

Breakfast and dinner at home. During the day you take a picnic prepared by the family: two sandwiches, water, fruit and a napkin.

Tell T4L before the trip so that a suitable family can be assigned.

Breakfast between 7:30 and 9:30 (coffee with milk or cocoa, toast, cereal, biscuits or pastries) and dinner between 20:30 and 22:00. Dinner is usually lighter, and the sobremesa, the conversation after the meal, is an important part of family meals.

That is normal: the programme is designed so you practise the language every day at home and in the activities. If you have difficulty communicating, tell your accompanying adult or the T4L team in your destination, who will support you.

It is not compulsory, but we recommend bringing a small gift from your city or country.

T4L immediately informs the client of the availability of the replacement family.

The essentials of the coexistence guide:

  • Visitors are not allowed at home without the family’s express permission, and never overnight.
  • One shower a day, between 7:00 and 23:00.
  • Food is eaten at mealtimes, never in the bedroom, and there is no access to the kitchen.
  • Alcohol and drugs are forbidden, there is no smoking inside the home and no pets are allowed.
  • Keep noise, light, water and heating moderate and leave the house as you found it.

All families have wifi; the landline is not used except in an emergency, so bring a mobile phone. Minors only go out alone with signed permission from their parents. The full coexistence guide is provided with the booking confirmation.

Only on stays of two weeks or more. Each week includes one wash of clothes, cleaning of the room and bathroom and a change of towels. On shorter stays, for example 3 to 5 nights, there is no laundry.

Only with signed permission from their parents or guardians, verified by T4L; without it, they do not go out alone. Aged 16 or over: until 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 00:00 on Friday and Saturday. Aged 15 or under: until 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday and until 22:00 on Friday and Saturday. The Client’s accompanying adults remain responsible for the group’s conduct.

The group’s accompanying adult takes charge of the medical situation and takes the student to the doctor or hospital; never the host family. T4L is notified immediately and, if needed, receives a copy of the medical report.

No. It is forbidden to offer or provide alcohol to anyone under 18, including the group leader or accompanying adults.

Tell your teacher or the T4L team. T4L can change family for a justified reason and at no cost to the Client. It responds within a maximum of 24 hours of the notice and rehouses the student as soon as possible, subject to availability.

T4L verifies material damage and the responsible participant compensates the family; the family does not claim directly from the student. The loss of a key or card is at the participant’s expense, and the participant should not call a locksmith on their own. The actual replacement cost is paid.

Call 112 first, then the T4L emergency phone, and tell the family. The T4L emergency number is given to students and accompanying adults with the booking confirmation.

The accompanying adult is informed. If the breach is serious or repeated, T4L may move you to another family or end your stay without a refund.
